The International Kolkata Book Fair takes place in winter. It is a special book fair in the sense of not being a trade fair—the book fair is mainly for the general public rather than whole-sale distributors. It is world’s largest non-trade book fair, Asia’s largest book fair and the most attended book fair. It is the world’s third-largest annual collection of books after the Frankfurt Book Fair and the London Book Fair.



Interesting Facts about the Book Fair 2022
This fair is also known as ‘Antarjatik Kolkata Boimela’ in Bengali. The Kolkata Book Fair 2022 was the 45th Book Fair, and every year they have a different theme for the fair. The theme is about some different country and then the famous books from that country are kept for the book fair. The theme for this year was ‘Bangladesh’. So, many books from Bengali writers were kept for exhibition in this year’s book fair.
The book fair this year was held at Central Park in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The dates were from 28th February – 13th March. In normal situations, the ground has a capacity and hosts total about 800 bookstalls. But this time due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the stalls have been reduced to 600 which is still a massive one.
The book fair has a huge number of bookstalls – these bookstalls consist of various authors, publishers, newspapers, magazines, and many others. Variety of books can be found here. Institutes, schools and universities, newspaper teams, museums, research institutes take part in this Kolkata book fair, and thus it’s one of the most important and largest book fairs in India. Aside from the book fair, many programs like singing, dancing, acts, speeches are organized here. The food stalls in this book fair are also very famous. Writers publish their books in the fair, so they get a lot of readers and sales number. People of Kolkata consider this book fair as a very vital part of their life.
